How do I transfer a domain in?

Unlock the domain where it is now, get its transfer code, then start the transfer in Lynqly with a card on file.

Moving a domain in takes a little prep where it's registered now, then a short flow in Lynqly. Before you start, make sure the domain is unlocked, privacy is off at your current provider, and you have the transfer code. You also need a saved card: the transfer fee is charged when you submit. The price depends on the extension and is shown before you confirm.

  1. At your current provider, turn off the transfer lock (sometimes called domain lock).
  2. Turn off privacy there if it's on. It can block the approval email.
  3. Ask your current provider for the transfer code (also called the auth or EPP code). They have to give it to you.
  4. In Lynqly, open Domains, start a transfer and enter the domain. Lynqly checks that its extension can be transferred.
  5. Enter the transfer code, check the price, and confirm with your card. You are charged at this step.
  6. Watch your inbox for an approval email from your current provider or the registry, and approve it quickly.
  7. Follow progress in your account. If the approval email never came, resend it from the transfer status screen. Entered the wrong code? You can fix it without starting over.
  8. Once the transfer is approved, the domain shows as active in your account.
Good to know

How long a transfer takes depends on the registry and your current provider, so there is no fixed time. ICANN rules also lock a domain for 60 days after it was registered or last transferred. If your transfer is refused for that reason, try again after the lock ends.
